IPL 2022 Mega Auction: With the rise in the covid cases in India, all the plans and tournaments of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have been disrupted. The cricket board earlier planned to host the Ranji Trophy 2022 along with the Under-25 CK Nayudu Trophy and the senior women’s T20 league, however, the tournaments have now been postponed due to the sudden spike in covid cases.

The major setback for the Indian Cricket Board will be if they had to postpone the mega auction IPL 2022, which is supposed to be held in Bangalore on 12 and 13th February.

According to the recent reports, owing to the surge in the covid cases, the BCCI might not take a risk to host the IPL 2022 Mega Auction in Bangalore. The state government of Bangalore has also imposed a night curfew in the city giving a clear alarm of the covid case increase.

The covid restrictions will surely hamper the plans of the BCCI and it might eventually have to shift its base to other cities. As per the reports, Mumbai, Kolkata and Kochi have been put on standby to host the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

It is noteworthy that the situations in Mumbai and Kolkata are not encouraging either and the experts have foreseen the situation to deteriorate further if the right steps are not taken to control.

A senior BCCI official confirmed that the board hasn’t done any bookings of the hotels. Moreover, once the situation gets clearer, we will take the necessary steps towards it.

“Some things are out of our hands and we must wait. Bookings and stuff will not be an issue if we have an idea about the restrictions. We are closely monitoring the situation and are in talks with the state associations. If we need to move the venue, it can be done on short notice,” a senior BCCI official said according to Zee News.

It is noteworthy that the IPL 2021 had to suspend midway due to the rise in the covid cases in the team camps. The BCCI decided to shift the tournament from India to the UAE in 2021.
