IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: The match number 59 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians didn’t quite live up to the expectations, however, we certainly saw a cracking contest between the two bowling sides. The match was won by Mumbai Indians (MI) by five wickets.
Rohit Sharma called rightly during the toss and opted to field first. Mumbai Indians (MI), earlier in their innings, got the benefit of the technical issue as the DRS System wasn’t available due to an error in one of the floodlights.
Opener Devon Conway was removed by Daniel Sams in the very first over. Umpires gave LBW, which would have been sliding down the leg side, however, DRS wasn’t available hence, Conway had to depart.
Following Conway’s wicket, Sams removed Moeen Ali in quick succession and pushed CSK on the backfoot. Pace Spearhead Jasprit Bumrah picked up from where he left in his last match and sent back Robin Uthappa in his first over.
The surface was aiding the pacers and Mumbai bowlers rightly exploited the condition and one by one picked wickets of Chennai based franchise.
CSK skipper MS Dhoni kept the scoreboard ticking, however, he couldn’t get support from non-strikers as a result of which CSK were reduced before the 100 runs mark. Mumbai Indians bowled out CSK for 97 in 16 overs.
In pursuit of a scanty total, Mumbai too lost early wickets after CSK pacers began using the help on offer from the surface. Ishan Kishan was removed in the very first over following which skipper Rohit Sharma had to depart.
Daniel Sams, who was promoted to number three, was also dismissed by Mukesh Chaudhary. Debutant Tristin Stubbs also had a forgettable outing as he was dismissed for a duck.
Meanwhile, youngster Tilak Verma and Hrithik Shokeen controlled the situation. Both the batters played sensible cricket and paid respect to the two CSK pacers.
The two batters took on every loose delivery and kept the scoreboard running. While Verma remained unbeaten at 34 runs, Shokeen scored 18 runs from 23 deliveries.
To finish things off in style for Mumbai, Tim David smacked two sixes and wrapped up the match. Mumbai won the contest by five wickets.

As it was the game between number 9 and 10, hence, no disturbance was recorded in the points table. Mumbai Indians (MI), already eliminated, remained at the bottom of the points table with three wins from 12 matches so far.
Meanwhile, with the win, Mumbai ensured the end of Chennai Super Kings’ campaign in the IPL 2022. CSK becomes the second team to get knocked out of the Tata IPL 2022.
Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) is atop the points table followed by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Gujarat has already confirmed its IPL 2022 playoff seat, but the fight for the remaining three seats is still on.

IPL 2022 Points Table:
Mumbai Indians’ young batter Tilak Verma once again emerged as the highest run-scorer for the team. Verma scored crucial 34 runs in 32 deliveries and helped his side overcome the Chennai challenge, last night.
Tilak Verma is also Mumbai’s leading run-getter in the tournament with 368 runs in 12 matches. The young cricketer has scored all these runs at an impressive average of 40.89.
Notably, the highest run-getter for Chennai Super Kings is opener Ruturaj Gaikwad who has amassed 313 runs in 12 IPL 2022 outings. Gaikwad is placed 18th in the Orange Cap race.
IPL 2022 Purple Cap:
CSK pacer Mukesh Choudhary exploited the surface in the Wankhede Stadium and scalped three crucial wickets for his team upfront. His three wickets have helped him storm into the top ten of the IPL 2022 purple cap ranking.
Choudhary has picked 16 wickets so far in the 11 matches of the IPL 2022 and is placed 10 in the ranking order.
Experienced CSK pacer Dwayne Bravo is right above his teammate Mukesh Chaudhary with the same number of wickets but in just 10 matches.
Meanwhile, there is no Mumbai Indians bowler in the top 20 ranking of the purple cap.
