IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap – Updated on 17 April: The doubleheader Saturday finished with two close encounters. In the afternoon fixture, KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) convincingly defeated Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians while in the second fixture, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) got better of Delhi Capitals.
Mumbai’s barren run in the Tata IPL 2022 continued as LSG handed them a defeat by 18 runs in the Brabourne Stadium. KL Rahul scored an unbeaten century in his 100th match and helped his side, Lucknow Super Giants to reach a total of 199 runs.
As usual, opening woes persisted for Mumbai Indians as skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan were dismissed inside the powerplay. Dewald Bravis, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma showed some resistance, however, everything went in vain as Mumbai fell 18 runs short of the total in the end.
Meanwhile, in the second fixture between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore, the latter defeated the former by 16 runs.
After being forced to bat first, RCB suffered yet another top-order collapse against DC. However, the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmad did all the rescue work and brought back the innings on track. Karthik slammed an unbeaten 66 off 34 deliveries while Shahbaz Ahmad scored 32 off 21. All-rounder Glenn Maxwell played a half-century knock to put up 189 runs total against Delhi.
Once again, Delhi got off to a steady start thanks to David Warner and Prithvi Shaw, however, wickets falling at regular intervals dented Delhi Capitals’ chances of winning. Despite valiant efforts from David Warner, who scored 66 runs, DC couldn’t chase down the target and lost the match.
