IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap – Updated on May 1st

IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: Rohit Sharma-spearheaded Mumbai Indians (MI) registered its maiden victory in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), last night, by defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by five wickets in the DY Patil Stadium.

The birthday boy, Rohit Sharma won the flip of the coin and invited Rajasthan to set to total on a two-paced surface. Opener Jos Buttler continued his sublime touch and scored cautiously 67 runs from 52 deliveries while Mumbai kept picking wickets at the other end.

All-rounder R Ashwin’s handy cameo of 21 runs off nine balls played a crucial role in taking Rajasthan Royals to 158 runs total against Mumbai Indians. Barring Buttler and Ashwin, none of the other RR batters could touch 20 runs mark.

In pursuit of 158 runs total, Mumbai lost its skipper early as R Ashwin cleaned Rohit Sharma in just the third over at a score of 2 runs. Ishan Kishan seemed to have returned from his poor form and scored 26 runs from 18 deliveries before getting dismissed.

Suryakumar Yadav and young Tilak Varma stitched a match-winning partnership to take Mumbai closer to the total. While Yadav played a 51 run knock, Varma collected 35 runs off 30 deliveries.

Further Kieron Pollard, Tim David and Daniel Sams played their little cameos and took Mumbai Indians over the line for the first time in the season. Sams smoked a six in his very first delivery and finished things off in style for Mumbai Indians.

There is no change in the points table, despite Mumbai Indians registering a victory. The five-time champions remain at the bottom of the points table with 2 rating points and a poor net run rate of -0.836. Notably, MI is theoretically still in the race for playoffs, although, the chances of them qualifying are very less.

Rajasthan Royals held their second position in the points table. The inaugural champions have six wins and three defeats in their nine outings in the IPL 2022.

The chart is led by Gujarat Titans (GT) who seem to be in a fantastic string of victories. GT defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a close clash, earlier on the last day, and capped off the match.
