IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap – Updated on May 7th

IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: Mumbai Indians (MI) celebrated their second victory of the season after defeating Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) in match number 51 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 in the Brabourne Stadium, last night.

Mumbai Indians (MI) got off to a flier start after losing the toss. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan scored quick runs to lay a solid foundation for a strong run-fest. While Ishan Kishan looked rusty early on in his innings, his partner Rohit Sharma nailed every delivery that kissed his willow.

MI skipper scored a quickfire 43 runs from 28 deliveries before getting dismissed by Rashid Khan. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan helped with his 45 from 29 balls.

Gujarat Titans (GT) made a comeback in the middle overs following the dismissal of the two openers and restricted the run flow. The middle-order turbulence shattered Mumbai’s hopes of a massive total, however, Tim David at the backend was prepared for his blazing show.

David smacked 44 runs from mere 21 deliveries and helped Mumbai Indians reach 177 runs in 20 overs.

In pursuit of an average total at the Brabourne, Gujarat looked in complete control throughout their innings. Openers were extremely well as they amassed 106 runs before the dismissal of the first wicket. Both Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill took the game away from Mumbai’s grasp.

However, a double-wicket over from spinner Murugan Ashwin dragged Mumbai back into the contest. More wickets fell towards the end and Mumbai needed to defend 9 runs off the final over with David Miller, Rahul Tewatia at the middle and Rashid Khan to follow.

To everyone’s surprise, Daniel Sams sealed the game for Mumbai Indians as he successfully defended nine runs off his last over. Sams gave away just 3 runs in the over and became the hero of the match.

Mumbai Indians won the match by five runs and secured their second victory of the season.
