The IPL 2022 season is at the business end and we have witnessed one of the finest innings by an uncapped player in the IPL. Rajat Patidar was toying with the LSG bowlers and got RCB to the victory. He scored an unbeaten 112* off 54 balls. Rajat has been having a great run in the SMAT and the VJT domestic leagues. So, amazing performance in the IPL was always on track. The motto of the IPL is “Where Talent meets Opportunity” and Rajat’s story does justify the motto. Here is an in-depth look at other uncapped, young players who have scored a hundred in the IPL:
1) Manish Pandey Plays for LSG in IPL 2022:
Manish Pandey was the first Indian and the first uncapped player to score an IPL hundred. He walked into the RCB squad after a successful U-19 campaign in Malaysia back in 2008. This team had an elite group of players like Virat Kohli, Siddharth Kaul, Ravindra Jadeja, Pradeep Sangwan, and Saurabh Tiwari. He played for LSG in IPL 2022.
This was the best endorsement for the IPL as an uncapped, young Indian was smashing the pros of the game. His hundred came against the Deccan Chargers. He scored a whopping 114 runs from 73 balls and remained unbeaten. The illustrious cover drives that Pandey is famous for, were on display that afternoon. It was a day game and Pandey made the Gilchrist-led team chase leather-like never before. Current stats of Pandey after a successful career in the IPL are as follow:
Statistic | Value |
Matches | 160 |
Runs | 3648 |
Average | 29.2 |
Strike Rate | 121.2 |
Highest | 114* |

2) Shaun Marsh:
Shaun Marsh was the orange cap holder in the very first season of the IPL. He helped the Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) to qualify for the playoffs in the very first season. The left-hander was unstoppable in the first season. His dominance was like never before. Marsh was single-handedly carrying the burden of the Kings. It was the last game of the IPL season. He doesn’t feature in IPL 2022.
Marsh scored a jaw-dropping 115 runs off 69 balls. All the shots that he is known for were on display. He countered the short-ball very well too. He graced his innings with eleven 4s and seven 6s. The innings came against a decent bowling line-up featuring the champions of that season, the Rajasthan Royals. Munaf Patel, Shane Watson, and Siddharth Trivedi. All these bowlers were left without an answer. Here is a look at the stats of Shaun Marsh in the IPL:
Statistic | Value |
Matches | 71 |
Runs | 2477 |
Average | 39.2 |
Strike Rate | 132.4 |
Highest | 115 |

3) Paul Valthaty is not a part of IPL 2022:
Paul Valthaty was a total surprise package in the IPL. The Mumbai-lad back then assured dominance on the Chennai Super Kings. Paul was a top contender for the orange cap for quite some time that season. It was just the start of the IPL 2011 season.
While chasing a score of 188 set by the Chennai Super Kings, Paul went “Beast-Mode”. He slammed 120 runs off 63 balls. He complimented his innings with 19 fours and 2 sixes. However, from that innings onwards, Valthaty could manage only a few scores here and there and he slipped down the cards. He currently plays the Times Shield in Mumbai. He is a Mumbai-domestic circuit legend. Not taking credit away from him as he made sure that the fans have a good time in IPL 2011. Here is a look at his IPL stats, they might look mediocre but Valthaty’s innings were always impactful:
Statistic | Value |
Matches | 23 |
Runs | 505 |
Average | 22.9 |
Strike Rate | 120.8 |
Highest | 120* |
100s | 1 |
50s | 2 |
4) Devdutt Padikkal:
Devdutt Padikkal is the only recent uncapped player apart from Rajat Patidar to have scored a hundred. Devdutt is already a strong contender for the national team. He even got an opportunity in the Sri Lanka series of 2021. DDP as he is called has been a part of RCB initially and currently is a part of the Rajasthan Royals. Devdutt Padikkal looks like the disciple of Yuvraj Singh. He has dominated the domestic circuit for over two years now. He should have gotten more opportunities but Shikhar Dhawan has held his position in the ODI format very firmly.
Padikkal scored an unbeaten 101 against the Rajasthan Royals while chasing. It was the 16th game of the 2021 IPL season. He made an elite partnership with Virat Kohli. His innings featured 11 fours and 6 sixes. Here is a look at his IPL stats:
Statistic | Value |
Matches | 43 |
Runs | 1221 |
Average | 29.1 |
Strike Rate | 125.1 |
Highest | 101* |

50s | 7 |
