The sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to kickstart with the auction, which will be held in December. The last season of the elite tournament finished with a new champion team. Gujarat Titans (GT) won the IPL 2022 in its maiden season by defeating inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Now the preparation for the next IPL has begun with all the office-bearers of the BCCI grouping together to plan a roadmap ahead of the tournament. The IPL 2023 auction is slated to be held on 23rd December in Kochi.
The upcoming season of the Indian T20 League will be special for the fans as well as for the cricketers as it would once again retain the historic home and away format. For the last three seasons, the IPL has been held in just a couple of venues.

IPL 2023 Auction Rules, Regulations:
The IPL 2023 mini-auction is scheduled to be held on 23rd December in Kochi. Unlike last year, this auction will allow IPL franchises to retain most of their players and appear in the auction process. The teams will have the luxury of retaining core players.
- The usage of the Right To Match (RTM) card will not be allowed.
- Not more than 25 players and at least 17 players will be required to form a squad.
- The BCCI has also put an upper and lower limit on the number of domestic and foreign cricketers in a squad. A side can’t have more than 25 Indian players while the lower cap would be 17. Likewise, not more than 8 international players are allowed in a squad.
- Each franchise will have to shell out 75 per cent of its allotted purse value.
- No purchase can be made beyond the purse value.

IPL 2023 Auction – Right to Match Card:
As per the rules put in place by the BCCI for the sixteenth edition of the IPL auction, no franchise will be allowed to use the Right to Match (RTM) card for acquiring a player. This very facility was also not provided during the last mega auction in 2022.
IPL 2023 Trade Window:
Before teams gear up for the auction, a trade window is opened by the BCCI. Franchises can trade players amongst themselves in this trading window.
