Bumrah is still dealing with the stress fracture in his back, and according to sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), he is having trouble playing in the IPL 2023 season.

Bumrah suffered this back issue during the July 2016 tour of England, which prevented him from competing in the Asia Cup as well. He returned in the T20 series against Australia, but again he got injured after just two games and was unable to participate in the T20 World Cup in 2022. Bumrah was also selected to face Sri Lanka in 2023, but his back injury prevented him from playing even one match. After this, it was expected that he would return for the Test series against Australia, but this did not happen, and after being ruled out of the entire Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he was not even selected for the ODI series against Australia.

Over the past few weeks, Bumrah has been receiving treatment for his injuries at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), but so far, things have not gone as planned.
