IPL 2023 mini auction: The IPL mini-auction for the 2023 edition is currently trending everywhere and scheduled to be held in a few weeks and several franchises are slashing their retention for the cash-rich tournament next year. And the fresh reports are that Delhi Capitals are likely to release some big names from their squad, including KS Bharat, Tim Seifert, and Shardul Thakur.
Shardul is set to be among five players who the franchise will not retain which also includes wicket-keeper KS Bharat and Tim Seifert. Delhi failed to reach the playoffs in 2022 and ended 5th on the table.

IPL 2023 Auction: Delhi Capitals to release 5 players
Delhi Capitals (DC) are likely to let go of their Rs. 10.75 crores signing Shardul Thakur ahead of the IPL 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). DC had made a huge investment in signing the 2021 title winner with CSK but his price tag is proving too costly for them. Thakur was bought by the Delhi-based franchise in a mega auction earlier this year for a whopping price tag of INR 10.75 crores. Thakur took 15 wickets in 14 matches in the tournament last year but at an economy of 9.79 runs. With the bat, he could only score 120 runs at an average of 15.00.
According to a report by the news agency Press Trust of India alongside Shardul, wicket-keeper batter KS Bharat and New Zealand opener Tim Seifert are set to be sent back into the auction pool by the Capitals. Mandeep Singh will also have to look for a new home next season as well as Andhra Pradesh uncapped opener Ashwin Hebbar.
“Shardul is a premium all-rounder but his price tag was an issue. The others who are set to be released for IPL 2023 are Hebbar, Mandeep, Seifert, and Bharat,” an IPL source was quoted by TOI.
In the meantime, the brand is also planning to release Ashwin Hebbar, Mandeep Singh, Tim Seifert, and KS Bharat alongside Thakur. In contrast to Hebbar, who did not play any game in the competition in the previous edition, the other batters did not stand out when given a chance to play for the Delhi Capitals. Because Seifert and Bharat are both wicketkeeper-batters, if DC opts to release them, they will require a backup for Rishabh Pant.
According to the same report, India’s 2022 Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhul will continue to be a part of DC as the franchise has no plans to release him to the auction table (IPL 2023) despite not playing a single match last season.
