Jofra Archer is slowly and steadily coming to full fitness. He was supposed to be available for the IPL 2023 season. Last season, the Mumbai Indians wisely chose Jofra Archer as the accelerator to pair with Jasprit Bumrah. They had bought Jofra for 8 crore Indian rupees despite knowing that he wouldn’t be playing in the 2022 IPL season. But as the latest updates suggest, Jofra may miss the upcoming IPL 2023 season as well. IPL fans have been perplexed by his cryptic tweet:
Jofra Archer Cryptic Tweet on IPL 2023:
Jofra Archer shared a cryptic tweet saying, “If I leave quietly, I’m not coming back”. The context of this tweet is absolutely unknown. But the fans believe that it is in context to him being in jeopardy. The point of concern for him is whether to play in the IPL 2023 season for the most successful IPL team or to play for his national team England in the Ashes. It means that he refers to leaving the IPL 2023 season to play the Ashes, as understood by the netizens.
When asked about his recovery, this is what Jofra Archer had to say, “Obviously to get back to the first team is my number one priority but also getting back there as safely as possible. I’d rather take these last few months very seriously, more serious than probably all of the rehab because once this phase goes right then it can set me up for the next three to four years injury-free.” The above is an excerpt from his interview with Indian Express.
Jofra Archer back to fitness:
The issues of Jofra’s fitness have likely been solved. He initially had an elbow injury that kept him out of the game. He missed two of the most crucial T20 World Cups for England. He also missed the Ashes of 2021. He was nursing back stress fractures for the past few months and he is steadily recovering. He has made it clear that his priority is to play for the nation.
Mumbai Indians to look for backup options for Bumrah and Archer in IPL 2023 Auction:
The Mumbai Indians would have had an unplayable bowling attack if Jasprit and Jofra had both shown up for IPL 2023. But if one of them misses or both of them miss the tournament due to back stress fractures, it is a point of concern. The Mumbai Indians will have to look for backup options for both of these bowlers. Here is a look at the available options:
- Shivam Mavi (Young Indian Pacer)
- Chris Jordan (Specialist T20 Player and Specialist Death bowler)
- Riley Meredith
- Jhye Richardson
- Andrew Tye
