IPL 2023: KKR captain Shreyas Iyer yet not out of IPL 2023: In an encouraging development for the KKR fans and management, their captain Shreyas Iyer hasn’t been declared unfit for the forthcoming season of the IPL and the cricketer has been asked to rest for 10-days before he could be finally accessed and a call could be taken on his IPL 2023 presence.

As of now, not even the KKR officials know whether their captain (Shreyas Iyer) will be able to participate in the IPL 2023 or not. The medical experts have recommended Iyer to lie low for at least 10 days, hoping his condition to improve, before a final decision could be made.

Notably, the Indian management pulled Shreyas Iyer out of the IND vs AUS 4th Test after the first innings. He complained of back pain and later scans revealed that the cricketer has suffered back spasms. He was eventually ruled out of the ongoing IND vs AUS three-match ODI series as well.

Although the initial scans and tests result aren’t encouraging and reports say that Shreyas Iyer will miss the IPL 2023, however, there is no official confirmation from the BCCI or the KKR franchise.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is due to release a statement on Shreyas Iyer’s condition.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) hasn’t named any replacement yet for their captain Shreyas Iyer, though, they are reported to be preparing for any such circumstances. The players and officials of the franchise are expected to assemble in a couple of days’ time in Kolkata, their home ground.

Some speculations suggested that the KKR management is potentially looking at Sunil Narine to lead KKR in absence of Shreyas Iyer, however, a report in Cricbuzz indicated that it is highly unlikely to happen and the franchise may choose to look beyond Sunil Narine.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had an on-and-off IPL season last year as they finished seventh in the points table after the end of league stages. The purple army could only manage to win six games out of 14 and eventually missed out on its chance to enter the playoffs of the IPL 2022.

IPL 2023 KKR Squad: Shreyas Iyer (c), Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell, Nitish Rana, Shardul Thakur, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sunil Narine, Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee, Mandeep Singh, Lockie Ferguson, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy, Anukul Roy, Shakib Al Hasan, N Jadadeesan, Vaibhav Arora, Rinku Singh, David Wiese, Kulwant Khejroliya, Suyash Sharma, Litton Das.
