IPL 2023, List of Most Successful and Unsuccessful Captains: IPL 2023 has witnessed many captains in the tournament’s history. With 16 captains representing the ten teams, this season (IPL 2023) has surpassed the previous record set in IPL 2013, which had 15 captains.
Some groups have adopted a rotational captaincy approach, while others have faced captaincy change due to injury and unavailability. Virat Kohli briefly led Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Suryakumar Yadav took charge of Mumbai Indians in some matches.
Captains have also stepped in for certain franchises, such as Krunal Pandya leading Lucknow Super Giants instead of KL Rahul and Sam Curran leading Punjab Kings in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan.
List of all the captains who led their teams in the IPL 2023:
1.Mahendra Singh Dhoni
He was the most successful captain in IPL history, leading his team to four-time IPL championships. In the season 2023, Chennai Super Kings qualified for the finals under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni with nine wins in 15 matches.
2. Hardik Pandya
This is the second season of Hardik Pandya as a captain, and Gujarat Titans have qualified for the final for the second consecutive time. Gujarat has won 11 matches in 16, including a playoff match.
3. Rohit Sharma
After a bad start of the season, MI got their winning track and won 9 matches in 16 games under the captainship of Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma is the most successful IPL captain, with five IPL trophies.
4. Krunal Pandya
In the absence of KL Rahul this season, Krunal led Lucknow SuperGiants well and under his captainship, LSG reached the IPL 2023 playoffs. LSG won a total of 8 matches out of 15.
5. Sanju Samson
The unluckiest captain of this season, Sanju Samson, did not make his team qualify for the playoffs. Last year Rajasthan was Runner-up under his captainship, but this season RR won only seven matches and did not qualify for the playoffs.
6. Faf Du Plessis
Faf’s performance with the bat was excellent this season, but he could not make his team qualify for the playoffs as a captain. His team finishes 6th in the points table.
7. Nitish Rana
In the absence of Shreyas Iyer, Nitish Rana was given the responsibility of captainship, but he failed to mark the impact, and his team finished at 7th in the points table.
8. Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan was out from a few matches due to injury and could not lead his team in many games. Although he captained many matches, his team could not qualify for the Playoffs.
9. David Warner
The former captain of SRH got a chance to lead Delhi Capitals in the absence of Rishabh Pant, who tried his hardest but failed to qualify for the playoffs. His batting was excellent, but as a captain, results won’t came in his favour.
10. Aiden Markram
He is the most Unsuccessful captain of this season, SRH finishing at ten in the points table and managing only four wins in 14 matches.
