The Lucknow Super Giants were one of the two new franchises who had made their way into the prestigious Indian premier league for the first time in their history. The immense pressure and burden of expectations of all the fans were certainly good enough to take a toll on the performance of this newly built franchise in the IPL 2022.
The challenge for the management was to find the best possible combination of players to represent the franchise on the big stage and give a tough fight to the other sides in the league who were already pretty much settled with their plans right from the first edition of the tournament.
A newly appointed captain of the side, KL Rahul was seemingly the most suitable option to lead the side right from day 1 since his being purchased by the Lucknow management in the auction. Other star players including Quinton De Kock, Marcus Stoinis, Jason Holder, Deepak Hooda and many more also made the squad a strong looking one.
The only concern that seemed to be there was that most of the players who had a big name in the world of cricket weren’t really coming off from good IPL seasons in the past except a few in their previous seasons with their earlier franchises. Most of the players failed to make a pact either on an individual or on a collective basis in the earlier seasons. Much to the surprise of everyone the team displayed quality performances one after the other throughout the group stages as it ran riot against several quality sides regularly.
The team most importantly made sure that all the players contributed to the team’s success in every match. The team used to find a new hero at the end of each victory which drew the attention of all fans. Players upon whom the franchise has rested their trust stood up to their tasks respectively as they paved the path for their team to finish at the third position in the points table at the end of the group stages.
Lucknow Super Giants though went on to lose the eliminator match vs RCB and got knocked out of the IPL, they’ll have plenty of positives to draw from their impressive debut season in the IPL 2022.
Lucknow Super Giants: Predictions for IPL 2023
The team as it’s pretty much clear has been absolutely phenomenal in terms of temperament and character that it has shown in its debut season of the IPL. They will have plenty of things to cheer about and also a fair bit of lessons to learn from their errors this season which led to their exit.
Lucknow Super Giants may be looking to end all their miseries in the lower middle order by laying their hands on a powerful big hitter who could finish the matches for them in style. The bowling department too hopefully will be in need of a specialist spinner who could choke the runs in the middle overs thereby letting the side put pressure on the opposition batters regularly.
Lucknow Super Giants will be looking to leave behind the miseries of a disappointing end to their campaign last year and bank on all sorts of positives that they’ve achieved in the past seasons and emerge the best amongst the rest in IPL 2023.
