IPL 2023 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: Oh dear! What a week this is turning out to be in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Four back-to-back nail-biting thrillers came our way. Last night, CSK was up against RR at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in match number 17 of the Tata IPL 2023. The last ball finish to the CSK vs RR game went in favour of the visitors, who won it by only three runs.
Batting first, RR produced 175 runs total in 20 overs. Opener Jos Buttler once again scored a half-century and was assisted by Devdutt Padikkal (38 off 26) and Ravichandran Ashwin (30 off 22) and Shimron Hetmyer (30 off 18) to reach 175 runs total. Tushar Deshpande, Aakash Singh and Ravindra Jadeja scalped two wickets apiece while Moeen Ali bagged one.
In pursuit of 175 runs total in a spinning track, CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early. But Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane kept things under control. The two were rotating the strike nicely and stitched a 50-run stand.
R Ashwin broke the partnership between Conway and Rahane by picking the wicket of the latter batsman. Following Rahane’s wicket, CSK’s middle order saw a complete debacle as the RR spinners took control. However, in the end, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni gave some hope to the CSK fans.
In the last 2 overs, CSK required 40 runs. The penultimate over of Jason Holder was taken for 19 runs which brought the required equation down to 21 runs off 6 balls. Pacer Sandeep Sharma held his nerves in the final over and defended 21 runs and helped RR breach fortress Chepauk by 3 runs.
