IPL 2023 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: The doubleheader Saturday saw two contests – RCB vs DC and LSG vs PBKS. While Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the afternoon game against Delhi Capitals by 23 runs, Punjab Kings (PBKS) managed to pull off a brilliant run-chase against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to win the game by 2 wickets.
In the first fixture of the doubleheader Saturday, RCB scored 174 runs in 20 overs quota. Opener Virat Kohli scored a half-century while there were significant contributions from other players as well including Faf du Plessis (22) and Glenn Maxwell (24).
In chase of a modest total at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, DC made a mess of their run-chase as they lost wickets in a cluster. Manish Pandey scored a half-century, but besides him, no other player could score more than 25 runs. Eventually, DC fell 23 runs short of the target and lost the match.
In the second fixture of the day, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) scored 159 runs in 20 overs with skipper KL Rahul playing a 74-run knock. It was just a one-sided effort for KL Rahul as no other batter could step up and aid him throughout the innings.
In pursuit of 159 runs, Punjab Kings (PBKS) saw its top order collapsing in absence of skipper Shikhar Dhawan. However, Matthew Short, Harpreet Singh Bhatia and Sikandar Raza played good cricket to bring PBKS back on track. Eventually, with the efforts of young Shahrukh Khan, PBKS got over the line with three balls to spare.
