Top 5 Batting Performances of TATA IPL 2023 League Stage
5- Suryakumar Yadav- 103*(49) vs GT (Match No. 57)
Suryakumar Yadav started the season with three back-to-back poor innings scoring 15,01, and 0 respectively, leaving everyone doubtful about his form. Some glimpses of him getting back in form were observed in the 4th match of Mumbai Indians vs KKR where he smashed 43 off 26. He then took off and never looked back. In a must-win match against Gujarat Titans, he smoked 103* off 49. This was one of a kind inning where he smashed 11 boundaries and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 210.
In the last 8 balls he faced, he scored 30 runs which eventually turned out to be the winning difference for MI. Rohit and Co. won the match by 27 runs.
4- Shubman Gill- 104*(52) vs RCB (Match NO. 70)
In the last match of the TATA IPL 2023 League Stage that was the decider for the 4th qualifier for the Playoffs, Shubman Gill single-handedly drowned down all the hopes of centurion Virat Kohli, RCB, and entire RCB fans to qualify for the Playoffs.
Shubman in this innings scored 104* off just 52 balls, striking at a 200 strike rate, and smoked 8 sixes and 5 fours. In the context of the game, all other his teammates were struggling to get runs off the middle of the bat and he alone scored 104 out of the team’s 198 runs. That was some innings. In the same match, Virat Kohli also got a ton but it goes in vain as Gill took GT flying high.
3-Cameron Green- 100*(47) vs SRH (Match NO. 69)
Mumbai Indians roped in Cameron Green for a whopping Rs 17.5 crore at the auction ahead of the ongoing edition of the IPL. He is the second-most expensive player ever. He justified that price tag for MI at a must-win match for MI to qualify for the IPL 2023 Playoffs.
The last match of MI in the league stage, MI standing at no.6 in the points table, all that pressure and Green’s TON under that pressure. It was his maiden T20 century and more importantly, it was the most valuable century out of all in this season. He smacked 8 fours and 8 sixes in his innings which means 80 out hundred runs were just in boundaries.
2- Nicholas Pooran- 62(19) vs RCB (Match NO. 15)
The 16 Crore man, Nicholas Pooran, brought chaos into the RCB dugout when it was all under their control. 101 runs and 4 wickets down after 11 overs in a chase of 213 is always a stage where the defending side is in command, but there comes Nicholas Pooran, striking at a strike rate of over 326 turned the cards within a blink of an eye.
Pooran wrecked the RCB bowling unit to the limits and smashed the fastest century of the TATA IPL 2023 in 15 balls with the help of 4 boundaries and 7 sixes. Hence it was not a century but definitely deserves the second spot in the list.
1- Rinku Singh- 48*(21) vs GT (Match NO. 13)
What a find Rinku Singh has been for KKR this season! The left-handed middle-order batsman perhaps known to anyone before this IPL season, who is world-famous now.
And the reason is his amazing 5-ball 5-sixes against the Gujarat Titans, the defending champs, in Ahmedabad. In his team’s grueling 205-run chase, Rinku Singh performed the unthinkable with 29 runs needed off the last over. After Umesh Yadav got a single from the first ball of the final over, Rinku took matters into his own hands and hit 5 maximums in a row off Yash Dayal to secure an incredible victory.
He finished undefeated with a 48. As the season progressed, Rinku’s prominence only increased as he emerged as the leader of KKR, scoring 474 runs at an average of 59, which is quite incredible, especially for a player coming at No. 6. This was the best batting performance under pressure any batsman could display. The numbers are small but the impact, those 5 sixes left is enormous.
