IPL 2024 Auction: RR trade Devdutt Padikkal to LSG for Avesh Khan: In an important trade ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction, left-arm opener Devdutt Padikkal is set to be released by Rajasthan Royals (RR). Padikkal will head to Lucknow Super Giants for the IPL 2024 in a player swap deal that took place between LSG and RR.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have entered into a player swap deal whereby RR will let go of southpaw Devdutt Padikkal for pacer Avesh Khan. Following the deal, Padikkal will represent LSG, while Avesh Khan will don Rajasthan Royals’ pink jersey in the Tata IPL 2024.
Notably, both Devdutt Padikkal and Avesh Khan had an underwhelming outing in the IPL 2023. Padikkal, who had shown immense potential in his debut edition of the IPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), hasn’t been able to match his performance. He was quite exceptional when he was given the opener’s role, however, his stock took a sharp dip as he tried to prove his mettle in the middle order with Rajasthan Royals.
It will be Devdutt’s third IPL franchise after making a debut in IPL 2022. The southpaw began with Royal Challengers Bangalore for two years before getting a lucrative INR 7.75 crore contract from the Rajasthan Royals during IPL 2022 Auction.
Talking about his stats, Padikkal scored over 400 runs in his first two editions, each, of the IPL – in 2020 & 2021 with RCB, however, things took a sharp turn for him as he began providing his services in the middle order for Rajasthan Royals. During the last two seasons of the IPL, the Karnataka-based batter has only been able to muster 376 and 261 runs in the two editions.
On the other side, Avesh Khan, who made his IPL debut in 2017, only managed to find his feet in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Delhi Capitals (DC). The pacer scalped 24 wickets in 16 matches with Delhi in the IPL 2021. However, the next year he landed with Lucknow Super Giants, where he scalped 18 wickets in 13 appearances. His recent IPL outing, though, has remained meek and lukewarm, with him picking just eight scalps in nine appearances.
Interestingly, this is the second trade of the IPL 2024. A couple of weeks ago, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) traded Romario Shepherd to Mumbai Indians (MI) in a cash deal. The deal was later confirmed.
The IPL 2024 Auction is set to be held on December 19 in Dubai. The player retention date for all 10 franchises has been extended to November 26 by the officials.
