He had a decent two years with the UP-based franchise and under him team qualified for the playoffs in both seasons. It’ll be a big blow for LSG as the former Indian cricketer played a huge role in the team’s development.
There were a lot of reports recently about Gautam Gambhir joining Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2024. However, they all have now turned out to be true. The former Indian cricket was in talks with KKR for a while and also met up with franchise owner Shahrukh Khan.
The duo had a conversation about Gautam Gambhir joining KKR at the Bollywood actor’s residence in Mumbai. It was also learned that the former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper himself expressed his desire to join the team and wasn’t interested in continuing with LSG.
Gautam Gambhir joining Kolkata Knight Riders will be a homecoming for him as he has been an integral part of the team. He joined KKR in 2011 and made it among the most successful franchises in the league.
Under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir, Kolkata Knight Riders became a dominating force and won titles in 2012 and 2014. His return to the team will be a massive boost for the team as since the last few editions in the league they have tumbled a bit.

Gautam Gambhir expressed his delight after joining the KKR ahead of the IPL. He said that he isn’t emotional but this thing moved him. Speaking in an official release by the franchise, he stated:
“I am not an emotional person and not many things move me. But this is different. This is back to where it all started. Today, there is a lump in my throat and fire in my heart as I think about slipping into that purple and gold jersey once again. I am not only coming back to KKR but I am coming back to the city of joy. I am back. I am hungry. I am number 23. Ami KKR.”
