IPL 2024: Mayank Yadav have turned quite a few eyeballs with his bowling efforts in just two matches of the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. After impressing one and all against Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, all eyes were on Mayank Yadav to rattle the Gujarat batting lineup on Sunday’s evening fixture.
As things turned out, the pacer could only bowl a solitary over, before he walked off the field. The first impressions of it looked concerning as Mayank didn’t take the field for any part of the match.
Later it was reported that the pacer had suffered side strain which hampered his performance in the solitary over he bowled as well. Yadav conceded 13 runs in his first over against Gujarat Titans (GT).
Senior player Krunal Pandya, who had a superb night with the ball in hand, provided an update on Mayank Yadav’s injury. Pandya said that the pacer seemed to be okay with whatever he got to know in the brief chat.
“I don’t know what is happening, but I had a couple of seconds with him [Mayank Yadav], he seems OK. He is a bright prospect, bowled gun in the nets, last year missed out. Good head on his shoulders and unbelievable prospect and interesting to see how he will pan out in his career,” said Krunal Pandya in the post-match conversation.
It’s worth noting that Mayank, who is known to bowl in excess of 145 kmph consistently, couldn’t cross the 140 kmph mark, last night.
LSG defends a low score despite Mayank Yadav’s absence
Meanwhile, despite Mayank Yadav’s absence, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered their maiden win over Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). LSG defeated GT by 33 runs at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
For LSG, Krunal Pandya and Yash Thakur remained the chief architects of the victory in the second innings. After putting up a 163-run total, which seemed a sub-par score at the halfway mark, LSG bowlers did manage to flip the table.
Krunal’s quota of four overs went quietly with him conceding just 11 runs alongside picking three wickets. He got rid of Sai Sudharsan, Sarath BR and Darshan Nalkade.
Yash Thakur, on the other side, seized the opportunity and returned with a five-for against Gujarat Titans (GT). He was subsequently adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for his sublime bowling show at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Owing to the win, Lucknow moves to the third position in the IPL Points Table with three wins and just a solitary loss so far in the tournament. They are only behind the likes of Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who are yet to be defeated.
LSG now have a few days breather before they host Delhi Capitals (DC) at their home venue on April 12.
