With Gambhir back in the KKR dugout, it felt like good old winning days for KKR, Narine contributing with crucial spells, Russell smashing the bowlers all around the park, and young bowlers standing up to the mark when they were asked. Harshit Rana is the name you might listen to often this season as he snatched the match from tall-standing Henrich Klasenn.
Batting first, KKR lost four out of the top five batsmen under a single-digit score whereas Phil Salt kept scoring runs from the other end. KKR were 119 for 6 down after 14 overs and then came the duo of Rinku Singh and Andre Russell turning spectators into fielders. They played 40 balls in total and smoked as many as 88 runs in those balls helping their team to rush to 208 runs at the end of 20 overs.
SRH got off to a flying start with Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma throwing their bats to every ball but they were in a good position after the powerplay. They also lost four wickets for 111 runs under 13 overs. Then Henrich Klasenn stood up for Sunrisers Hyderabad but didn’t get much-attacking partner until Shahbaz Ahmed came to the crease.
SRH needed 60 runs in the last 18 balls and Klaasen just talked in sixes along with Shahbaz Ahmed and pulled the match to 13 runs off 6 balls. Harshit Rana got the final over and Klasenn hit the first ball for a six and then Rana tightened his line and length and gave just two runs off the remaining 5 balls taking wickets of both set batters. This sealed the first win for Kolkata Knight Riders this season.
Before that, Punjab Kings bowled excellently to lock Delhi Capitals under 174 runs. Delhi were 149 runs at the end of the 19th over but thanks to Porel who smashed 25 runs in the final over but all it went in vain as Sam Curren smoked 63 runs off 47 balls leading Punjab to their first win of the season.
