Rohit Sharma trade to CSK: The last few weeks have been nothing less than madness in the Indian Premier League (IPL). It began with the retention of the players for the upcoming edition of the IPL in 2024. Soon after the official lists of retained players were announced by all 10 IPL teams on November 16, Mumbai Indians came up with a master plan to trade in Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Hardik Pandya.
While Hardik Pandya’s return to Mumbai Indians (MI) was termed extraordinary by most of the fans, it instilled a sense of confusion as well. A couple of weeks later, MI dropped a shocker as they announced Hardik Pandya as the captain of the side for IPL 2024, replacing long-standing Rohit Sharma.
This is where things went out of order for the fans, who thought there might be some issues in the team owing to which Rohit Sharma was removed from the leadership position.
Moreover, to intensify such emotions among the masses, it was the rumours and reports that played a huge role. Some reports claimed that former MI captain Rohit Sharma was being approached by a couple of franchises for the IPL 2024. It added that due to the ongoing agreement between Rohit and his franchise, he was unable to leave MI.
The biggest of all came when some reports claimed that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have approached Mumbai batter Rohit Sharma for the upcoming Tata IPL 2024. However, clearing all the messed up air, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan confirmed that his team was not involved in any such practices.
IPL 2024: CSK respond to rumours of Rohit Sharma’s trade
“We don’t trade players as a principle and we also don’t have players to trade with Mumbai Indians. We have not approached them and we don’t intend to either,” Viswanathan told Cricbuzz on the sidelines of the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai.
Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mark Boucher also issued a clarification on the discussions going on among the fans about the possible disturbance inside the dressing room. Boucher confirmed that the move to replace Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya was just a transition and everyone acknowledges it.
Notably, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, two of the vital cogs of MI’s unit, shared cryptic messages on their social media handles soon after Hardik Pandya was announced to sit at the helm of the franchise.
“It’s the game of cricket. Mumbai Indians move forward. Rohit has been fantastic for us. He’s been a stalwart for Mumbai Indians, he has done really well. This is just a decision that is made by us to move forward and get into a transition phase with the new captain and it’s, you know, take all the motions aside and all that type of stuff. That’s simply what it is all about,” said Mark Boucher, MI head coach.
