RCB have started their season in a stylish fashion, winning 2 of the 3 games in IPL 2025, while MI, under skipper Hardik Pandya, have lost 3 of their 4 matches and are placed in the 8th position of the points table.

1. RCB vs MI—IPL 2019 [MI won by 6 runs]

Back in 2019, a season of Mumbai Indians sheer domination under skipper Rohit Sharma. With the likes of Hardik Pandya, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya and Mitchell McClenaghan, MI defended a score of 187 in front of the hard-hitting RCB batting lineup. 

Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Shimron Hetmyer, Grandhomme and Dube were the batters in the RCB lineup, as Jasprit Bumrah was once again coined the Player of the Match with 3 wickets, as he went on to win the game for the Mumbai Indians. 

However, this match marked Lasith Malinga’s final ball no-ball, which went unnoticed by the umpire, as RCB needed 7 off the last ball and ABD missed it. This sparked immense criticism and aggression from the fans. 

2. MI vs. RCB—IPL 2020 [RCB won in a dramatic Super Over

The most dramatic match amid the rivalry between the two IPL giants. The IPL 2020 played in the UAE marked an intensified nail-biting thriller between RCB and MI, where batting first, RCB posed a huge 201 with fifties from Padikkal, Aaron Finch and AB de Villiers. Chasing the big total, RCB looked on the front foot with Sundar’s 1/12 spell in his 4 overs in the powerplay alongside the MI top order dismissed. 

However, Ishan Kishan and MI’s most trustworthy finisher, Kieron Pollard, once again did the job for the Mumbai Indians, with a blistering 58-ball 99 and 24-ball 60*, respectively. The game went into the super-over with a stunning final over from Navdeep Saini.

Eventually, ABD won it in the Super Over for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. 

3. RCB vs MI—IPL 2013 [MI won by 58 runs] 

IPL 2013, Rohit Sharma’s first season as skipper of Mumbai Indians, when the great Sachin Tendulkar played under him. Dwayne Smith batted well alongside some runs from Tendulkar, DK and Kieron Pollard; MI piled up a huge 194 runs. 

Mumbai’s heavy bowling lineup with Mitchell Johnson and Lasith Malinga did not let RCB batters gather easy runs early on, as the likes of Gayle, Kohli and ABD struggled with the bat. Harbhajan Singh and Dhawal Kulkarni eventually picked up wickets, and MI won the match by a huge 58-run margin. 

But what seemed to be the major highlight of the match was the heated on-field rivalry between Harbhajan Singh and RCB youngster Virat Kohli. 

4. MI vs. RCB—IPL 2021 [RCB won by 2 wickets] 

The Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore played the IPL 2021 opener, where MI’s heavy batting talent collapsed in front of Harshal Patel, who picked a 5-for in the very first over of the game. 

Later, MI bowlers did a fairly good job dismissing the likes of Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and others for scores after several balls played. AB de Villiers eventually pulled the game away from MI as RCB won the match by just 2 wickets. 

Harshal Patel went on to become the main man from just playing a few part-time roles. 

5. RCB vs MI—IPL 2015 [MI won by 18 runs]

The Mumbai Indians, back in 2015, had another season of Rohit Sharma and co. domination, marked by a stellar knock from Lendil Simmons and Rohit Sharma, at the back of which they posed a huge 210-run target. 

Rohit Sharma smacked 82 runs in the last 5 overs, while RCB, despite having the likes of Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, faltered in the chase. ABD played a death-over knock with 11 balls and 41 runs, and Wiese also followed with a stunning 25-ball, 47-run innings alongside his 4 wickets. MI went on to win the game by a margin of 18 runs as Harbhajan Singh was named the Man of the Match with 3 wickets.
