IPL 2025 Stats: Players With The Most Runs and Most Wickets | IPL Orange Cap and Purple Cap 2025
IPL 2025 STATS: Kolkata Knight Riders have registered a thumping win over Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. The yellow jersey is having one of the worst seasons of their existence as this loss has been one of the biggest losses for CSK in terms of balls left to spare.
After starting the season with a win over Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings have now suffered five consecutive defeats in the TATA IPL. Now, with Ruturaj Gaikwad out due to an elbow injury, MS Dhoni led the side against Kolkata Knight Riders.
KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and chose to bowl first. The decision paid off as KKR took two wickets in the powerplay and had CSK in deep trouble at 70 for 5, eventually reducing them to 79 for 9. Shivam Dube fought back in the end overs, helping CSK cross 100, setting a target of 104.
Sunil Narine starred with the ball, claiming 3 for 13, while Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets each.
In reply, KKR chased the target with ease. Narine smashed 44 off 18 balls, adding 46 runs in just 4 overs with Quinton de Kock. Despite losing his wicket later, the foundation was laid. Rahane and Rinku Singh wrapped up the chase, sealing an 8-wicket win with 59 balls to spare.
Their total of 103 for 9 was not only their lowest ever at Chepauk but also their third-lowest in IPL history, behind scores of 79 (2013) and 97 (2022), both against Mumbai Indians. This was CSK’s fifth consecutive defeat in IPL 2025, a first in their history, and their third straight loss at home this season—another unprecedented streak.
The margin of defeat by 59 balls was CSK’s heaviest in terms of balls remaining, surpassing their 46-ball loss to MI in 2020. For KKR, it was their second-largest win by balls remaining, just behind their 60-ball victory over RCB in 2021.
