IPL goes global as NBA, NFL stars invest in Rajasthan Royals: The National Basketball League (NBA) and National Football League (NFL) players have made their investment in the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Rajasthan Royals, the franchise confirmed the development on Sunday.
Rajasthan Royals, on Sunday, announced that Chris Paul of Phoenix Suns (NBA Team) and NFL stars Larry Fitzgerald and Kelvin Beachum have invested in the franchise and have become minority stakeholders in the team.
Indian Premier League’s rising global appeal has attracted several businessmen and investors. More so after the tournament expanded to a ten-team affair adding two more teams to the already existing pool of eight ahead of the IPL 2022.
Two new franchises, Gujarat and Lucknow paid collectively $1.7 billion to join the gala Indian tournament for the IPL 2022 and further. Notably, the bidding for the two teams also attracted overseas investors. Glazer family, owners of Manchester United and the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, had shown its interest in owning and operating one of the two new franchises in the IPL, however, they missed out on the opportunity.
“We are extremely pleased to have Chris, Larry and Kelvin join us as investors who have seen the vision of the Royals as a truly global brand,” said Rajasthan’s lead owner Manoj Badale.

NBA star and two times Olympic medalist, Chris Paul said he is excited to be a part of the Indian Premier League.
“I am excited to have become one of the first US athletes to see the value and scope for growth in the IPL. With a variety of components, including stadium experience and fan engagement still left to fulfil their course, I see myself contributing world-class experience through this strategic investment,” NBA star Chris Paul was quoted by Khaleej Times.
Notably, Rajasthan Royals are enjoying their outing in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sanju Samson-led side has already capped off six matches in the nine outings and is in line to get its playoff berth.
The inaugural champions are currently seated in the second spot with six wins and three losses in nine matches. RR will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in its next assignment at the Wankhede Stadium on 2nd May.
