IPL Points Table: SRH have sealed a final ball nail-bitter finish as they defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 1 run at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The Pat Cummins-led side kept themselves in the IPL 2024 playoff hunt with a close win. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) also got two points following which they toppled CSK at number 4 in the IPL Points Table (Updated).

What a game! What a finish this has turned out to be for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)! This was missing in the IPL 2024 for a long long time. With so many high-scoring matches, the last-ball finishes had become scarce. But, SRH vs RR had every bit of it and to the fullest.

Rajasthan Royals required 13 runs off the final six deliveries to win the game against Bhuvneshwar Kumar. R Ashwin took a single off the first delivery and gave the strike to Rovman Powell, who scored a double and a four in the two balls. The equation was reduced to 6 runs off 3 balls. Powell stole a couple of doubles in the next two balls to reduce the equation to 2 in a ball.

The stage was set, RR required at least 1 for a super-over and two for a win. On the other side, SRH needed to stop RR from the doubles anyway to be in the game. To outfox the batter, Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a full-toss in the final delivery and appealed for a lbw. The umpire thought it was plumb, and raised his fingers. RR wanted a review but didn’t had one in their bank and SRH sealed a magical 1-run win over RR.

Later the replays and DRS revealed the ball was crashing onto the stumps easily and the decision of the on-field umpire was valid.

SRH started off brilliantly with two wickets upfront in the first over of the play. Bhuvneshwar Kumar removed Jos Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson, both for a duck.

Following the early jolt, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag took the onus to make a fine recovery. The two batters stitched a 135-run partnership and kept their side in the hunt.

Jaiswal scored 67 runs while Riyan Parag played a fine 49-ball 77-run knock. However, the two fell at the crucial stage and SRH cashed in on the breakthroughs to build pressure.

The incoming batters struggled to get going and lost their wickets too, which put RR in the situation of 13 runs in the final over of the innings.

Earlier in the game, SRH piled up a 201-run total. They too couldn’t start off well as Abhishek Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh were dismissed quite early. However, Travis Head and Nitish Reddy got things back under control.

The two played sensibly and added a 97-run partnership to take SRH’s total to 131 runs in the 15th over. While Head was dismissed following his half-century, Nitish Reddy continued his sublime innings and remained unbeaten at a score of 49 runs in 42 deliveries, which included 8 sixes and 3 boundaries.

Keeping his legacy of whacking the opposition at will, Heinrich Klaasen, towards the end of the first innings after Travis Head’s fall, played a fiery 42-run unbeaten knock in just 19 deliveries to post 201 run total in 20 overs.
