Jasprit Bumrah has been the best all-format player, not just for Team India but in the whole cricket world. The pacer has been at the peak of his career and has been delivering across all formats in different situations. As a result, he won the Player of the Tournament award in the T20 World Cup 2024. Even in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, he was India's best player, and one can say the best player across two teams.

With his consistent performance last month, he moved to the No. 1 ranking in Test and achieved this feat.
He competed with the Australian captain Pat Cummins and South Africa's Dane Paterson for this award. Apart from the "Player of the Month" award, Jasprit Bumrah is also nominated for two other awards. He is nominated for the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award and the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year as well. Bumrah finished 2024 with the most wickets in international cricket.

"If India doesn't do well in the Champions Trophy, the head coach's position could become untenable. Yes, his contract runs till the 2027 World Cup but the process of evaluation continues. Sport is result-oriented and till now, Gambhir hasn't given any tangible results." 
The source added that Gautam Gambhir wants to the end superstar culture in the ,team which hasn't gone well with many in the side. He explained: 
"Gambhir wants to end the superstar culture that has been prevalent for so many years now. As captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012, he had dropped Brendon McCullum from the playing XI for the IPL final against CSK. He has come here to dismantle the superstar culture and that's what has caused discomfort for some playing members." 
The reports also claimed that selection committee also aren't happy with Gautam Gambhir. The Ajit Agarkar-led side don't want head coach to have too much of a say in selection matters. Former Indian cricketers in Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan named their Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. What caught the attention of many was that they didn't name Axar Patel and instead went in with Nitish Kumar Reddy as the all-rounder in the team. 
Both Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan backed Rohit Sharma to captain the Indian team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He will be opening the innings for the team, according to experts, while they pick Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill as two other openers.

The India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is keeping many engaged. The deadline given by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the squad announcement was on Sunday (12th January), and it has passed with no signs of the Indian team. 
Earlier, there were reports that BCCI had asked for extra time from the ICC as they needed to discuss the team, especially after they returned after the hectic Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. However, this isn't the exact reason why they haven't announced the squad. 
The real reason behind that, as revealed by Dainik Jagran, is that BCCI is awaiting the fitness report of the two key players Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav. The two players have been injured, and there are a lot of speculations about their fitness for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. 
Bumrah got injured during the Sydney Test and has been suffering from the back spasms. There have been various reports that revealed that the pacer might miss the league stage of the tournament and will be back to 100% fitness by the start of March. 
Kuldeep Yadav, on the other hand, has been recovering from the surgery he underwent for a groin injury. The leg-spinner is awaiting fitness reports, which might come by the end of this month. The wrist spinner is likely to be picked in the Indian team for England series before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as well.

BCCI has also identified some of the key players that will be playing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Skipper Rohit Sharma will be leading the team, and there are chances that young players Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, and others might get a nod ahead. 
India is placed in Group A of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. They will be first taking on Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand in the tournament.
