Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement for T20 World Cup 2022, selectors puzzled between Shami & Siraj: It’s been a while since Jasprit Bumrah’s injury news broke out and it destroyed millions of hearts of Indian fans. It was one of those moments which triggered fans’ anger for mishandling the pacer’s injury despite knowing the fact how prominent he is for India’s plans.
It’s been a task for the Indian think-tank to name a player who provides prowesses nearest to that of Jasprit Bumrah for India’s campaign in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. It’s definitely not easy to fill Bumrah’s shoes, but the selectors will have to name someone and there are a few candidates in reckoning.
The likes of Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj and Deepak Chahar have been in the news for a while and are the most probable candidate to replace Jasprit Bumrah on the Indian side. This article will lead you through Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement for T20 World Cup 2022.
Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement for T20 World Cup 2022:
Mohammad Shami:
After completing the T20I leg with South Africa, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid hinted at Shami’s inclusion in the side, however, his fitness was the major issue.
“In terms of who the replacement is, we’ll have a look, we’ll see, we’ve got time till October 15. Shami obviously is someone who’s in the standbys but unfortunately for us, he couldn’t play this series, which would have been ideal from that perspective,” Dravid was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also updated that the team needs an experienced campaigner and who better could have been if not Shami? With an enormous experience under his belt in playing international games in Australia and being a bowling veteran, Shami fits the criteria to be drafted into the side.
However, the right-arm pacer has recently recovered from covid and hasn’t featured in the T20Is since the last T20 World Cup in UAE. His last T20 appearance came in the IPL for Gujarat Titans. It’s also been a view that Shami has never managed to settle in the shortest format of cricket. He has been in and out of the format.

Mohammad Siraj:
Young pace Mohammad Siraj has pushed his case further with an impressive performance in the recently completed ODI series against South Africa. Siraj has scalped five wickets in three games at an average of 20.
Notably, Siraj made a comeback in the white ball Indian side as he was named Bumrah’s replacement for the remainder of the South Africa tour. He has been fantastic with his execution and has a handful of experience bowling in death overs.
The speedster won the ‘Man of the Series’ award for his sublime performance in the recently concluded ODI series. This fact would further push his case as the Indian think-tank mull Bumrah’s cover.
Deepak Chahar:
With the kind of movement he gets early on the innings, Deepak Chahar is absolutely magical with his bowling. His bowling abilities, especially upfront, are second to none and can be lethal for the opposition.
However, his performance has been hindered by his constant injuries. He briefly returned after recovering from his back injury which he sustained earlier this year, and now he is on the verge of getting ruled out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 due to another back injury.
He was taken to the NCA after India’s final T20I against South Africa as the bowler complained of still back. Subsequently, he didn’t take part in the ODI series. If there isn’t any case of injuries, Deepak Chahar is also the strongest candidate to replace Jasprit Bumrah.
Besides bowling abilities, Chahar also strengthens India’s batting at the lower end. He can smack bowlers for sixes which he has shown often.
