Joe Root to miss IPL 2022, vows to concentrate his energy to rebuilt England’s test side.
IPL 2022 Mega Auction: England’s Test captain Joe Root has once again passed on the opportunity to feature in the elite Indian Premier League (IPL). Root has confirmed that he hasn’t filled the IPL 2022 Mega Auction form. The fans will, now, have to wait for one more year to see Joe Root competing in the IPL.
The English skipper, after England’s test match loss at Hobart, affirmed that he has pulled out from entering the IPL 2022. He further added that he just wants to focus on test cricket and re-build the English test team.
“There’s a lot that we need to do for this team, which deserves all of my energy. I’ll keep sacrificing as much as I can because I care so much about Test cricket in our country and trying to get us to where we want to be,” said Joe Root following England’s fourth loss against Australia in the Ashes 2021-22.
Australia comprehensively dominated England in the recently concluded Ashes 2021-22. England lost four test matches against the mighty Aussies, while the visitors marginally managed to save the third test to avoid a clean sweep.
England’s dismal performance in Australia has been condemned by the entire cricket fraternity. Many have blamed the Indian Premier League (IPL) for England’s flawed performance. It must be noted that several English players have been a regular feature of the IPL while many miss the national duties to take part in the cash-rich IPL, obviously after getting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the ECB.

Former England skipper Michael Atherton has been the vocal critic of England’s open participation in the Indian T20 tournament. He targetted the England Cricket Board (ECB) for allowing the country’s cricketers to play the IPL in the expanse of England’s national loss.
After England’s substandard performance in the Ashes, ECB has chalked out an action plan to revive test cricket in England. The repercussions of the poor show will be faced by the all format cricketers, as they might have to miss the IPL 2022 to focus on England’s home summer.
As per various reports, England’s participation in the T20 extravaganza will be minimised and ECB will strictly control Englishman’s usage in the upcoming IPL 2022.
