Journalist Boria Majumdar likely to face 2 years ban in Wriddhiman Saha text case: Veteran sports journalist Boria Majumdar has reportedly been found guilty in the infamous Whatsapp test case involving Indian batter Wriddhiman Saha and is likely to face a two years ban, says a report published in the Indian Express.

Boria Majumdar was accused by Wriddhiman Saha of threatening and disrespecting him in a Whatsapp chat after he denied an interview with him.

The incident was brought to light by Wriddhiman Saha on February 19th, as he shared a few screenshots of intimidating Whatsapp chats from an unnamed journalist to his Twitter handle.

“After all of my contributions to Indian cricket… this is what I face from a so-called ‘Respected’ journalist! This is where journalism has gone,” – read the tweet from Saha which also had screenshots of his chat with the journalist, who was later identified as Boria Majumdar.

Notably, Saha revealed the screenshots a day after he received an axe from the Indian test side for the Sri Lanka series.

The entire Indian cricket fraternity began calling out and heavily criticized the journalist for his unethical acts. The Likes of Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Gautam Gambhir and Ravi Shastri wrote in support of the Indian wicketkeeper batter.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a couple of days later after the matter was brought to the public, decided to look into the matter as Wriddhiman Saha is a centrally contracted player. A three-member probing committee was formed by the Indian cricket board including vice-president Rajiv Shukla, treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal, and Apex Council member Prabhtej Singh Bhatia.

Meanwhile, a senior BCCI official has now confirmed that journalist Boria Majumdar will be banned from entering the Indian stadiums as he has been found guilty of bullying the cricketer. The official also added that the BCCI would also write to the ICC to blacklist the journalist.

“We will be informing all state units of the Indian cricket board to not allow him inside stadiums. He won’t be given media accreditation for home matches and we will also be writing to ICC to blacklist him. Players will be asked not to engage with him,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

Earlier, Boria Majumdar had defended himself by saying Wriddhiman Saha has “doctored” the Whatsapp screenshots and is manipulating the public.
