Journey of Ajinkya Rahane from dropped out of the team to Vice- Captain of The Indian Team: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Ajinkya Rahane as the Vice Captain of the Indian team for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies. Ajinkya Rahane has had a fantastic journey in the past 18 months after being dropped from the Indian team.
He was lastly dropped from the Indian team and removed from the Vice Captaincy role, but his dedication and outstanding performance gave him an opportunity to make a comeback in the Indian Team in World Test Championship (WTC) Final.
In the WTC Final 2023, Ajinkya Rahane played fantastically in both innings. He scored 89 runs in the first innings and 46 runs in the second innings, while the rest of the Indian batting order struggled against Australian bowlers. This inning helped him to make a comeback in the squad for the India vs West Indies Test series.
He also has been appointed as the Vice Captain of the Indian Team and going to support as Deputy Captain to Rohit Sharma. This is a drastic change for the 35 Years old Cricketer, who lost his spot and Vice Captaincy after the South Africa tour in 2022.
Rahane has proven his Captaincy skill in the absence of Virat Kohli in 2022, helping India to clinch consecutive Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory in Australia against Australia. Although facing several injuries within the team, Ajinkya Rahane remained a pillar of the Indian Team in Test Cricket.
He has also been in excellent form with the bat this season, performing exceptionally well for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2023 season. The decision to choose Ajinkya Rahane as Vice Captain of the Indian Test Team was taken after consulting with the Former Skipper of the Indian Team and the current skipper of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), MS Dhoni.
Rahane’s selection was defined by his solid batting technique and ability to handle pressure situations, especially against a moving ball. Rahane was the top run scorer for India in both the WTC Finals against New Zealand and Australia.
