KKR Captain Announced for the IPL 2022: The two times Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have announced their new captain for the upcoming edition of the IPL, three days after the conclusion of the Tata IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Shreyas Iyer has been handed over the leadership role, confirmed the franchise on Wednesday.
KKR roped in the services of Shreyas Iyer in the Tata IPL 2022 Mega Auction by shelling out a huge INR 12.25 Crores. The Knight Riders fought a bidding war against Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore before bagging the services of the elite cricketer.
CEO and MD of KKR, Venky Mysore confirmed the development and was thrilled to announce Iyer as the new leader of the Knight club.
“We are delighted firstly to have been able to successfully bid for Shreyas in the IPL auction & to have the opportunity for him to lead KKR,” Venky Mysore, CEO & MD of KKR said. “He has impressed one & all as a quality batsman at the highest level & we are confident that he will excel as a leader of KKR.”
Shreyas Iyer was released by Delhi Capitals (DC) during the player retentions before the IPL 2022 Auctions. He was earlier also replaced from the captaincy during the last edition of the tournament.

“I am extremely honoured to have gotten the opportunity to lead a prestigious team like KKR,” Iyer said. “The IPL as a tournament brings the best players from different countries and cultures together and I look forward to leading this great group of very talented individuals.
“I would like to thank the owners, management and support staff of KKR for giving me the opportunity to lead this team and I am confident that we will find the right synergies to achieve the team’s goals. Kolkata and The Eden Gardens have a very rich history when it comes to Indian cricket and I look forward to contributing to this rich history and making our fans proud of us as a team,” he added.
Iyer always wanted to spearhead a team and he has received that opportunity here in KKR, right from the beginning of his career in the franchise.
During his earlier stint as the captain of the Delhi Capitals, Iyer was absolutely fantastic with his game-changing moves. He has led DC to its only IPL final contest in the year 2020.
