ENGvsIND: Team India’s dashing opening batsman KL Rahul has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for showing dissent at the Umpires decision. Rahul was not convinced with the Umpires decision to call him out in the third innings of the Oval Test match, ICC confirmed on Sunday.

While batting at 46 on day three, Rahul edged a ball that straight went to the wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow’s hands. The on-field umpire initially adjudged it not out, but a review from England showed Rahul has edged the ball and the on-field decision was overturned.

The opener looked displeased with the umpire’s decision as he walked back to the dressing room at the Oval.

The cricketer was found guilty of breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, relating to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an International Match.”

ICC’s elite match referee Chris Broad imposed the sanctions that were levelled by third umpire Michael Gough and two on-field umpires. Rahul accepted his offence hence no formal hearing was called.

Besides the 15 per cent match fee, the cricketer will have one demerit point added to his disciplinary record, ICC said.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul once again provided India with a good solid opening partnership of 83 runs in the second innings. The two have been in phenomenal form lately and has been a boon for the team in English conditions where the Indian openers used to be an area of concern.

Rohit scored his first-ever overseas test century while Rahul fell four short of his well-crafted half-century at the Oval.
