It was a five-team tournament this year as well and they played in a double round-robin fixture. Each Team played eight matches and after the hustle of 17 days, we have our top-4 and the margin is very thin for the team getting eliminated in the group stage and the team qualifying for the playoffs.
The six teams playing in the tournament are- Dambulla Sixers, Kandy Falcons, Jaffna Kings, Galle Marvels, and Colombo Strikers. It has been a highly competitive tournament until now as the league’s slogan says “When local pride meets global talent”.
The league stage saw the domination of Galla Marvels and Jaffna Kings who lost just three out of 8 and won the other. The Colombo Strikers were good too in the middle but the real battle for qualification was between Kandy Falcons and Dambulla Sixers.
Dambulla Sixers, led by Mohammad Nabi, had a great chance for qualification if they could have managed to restrict the Colombo Strikers to 47 runs in the last match of the league stage. Dambulla posted 123 runs and they needed to win by 76 runs to run over the NRR of Kandy Falcons but a consolidatory 28-run win got them out of the tournament.
