Lucknow ropes in Andrew Tye as Mark Wood’s replacement for the IPL 2022: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have finally brought Australian pacer Andrew Tye on board as the replacement for injured Mark Wood in the side for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Mark Wood was earlier ruled out of the entire Tata IPL 2022 due to a right elbow injury.

The development was confirmed by the franchise, three days prior to the start of the cash-rich tournament in Mumbai.

It’s noteworthy that, previously, Lucknow zeroed on Bangladeshi pacer Taskin Ahmad as Mark Wood’s replacement, however, the franchise couldn’t sign the player as he wasn’t issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) due to packed international calendar.

Andrew Tye, who has won an IPL Orange Cap in 2018, played a significant part in the Perth Scorchers title win this year in the Big Bash League. The death over specialist picked 3 for 15 in the final match and his overall stats were also encouraging for the season.

Known for his slower balls and yorkers in the death overs, Andrew Tye has scalped 40 wickets in 27 IPL matches in the past at a decent economy of 8.46.

The Lucknow based franchise has a good bunch of fast bowling options on the side. The likes of Avesh Khan, Ankit Rajpoot and Dushmantha Chameera are likely to be the first choice options.

The aforementioned pacers will be backed by all-rounder Jason Holder, Marcus Stoinis and Kyle Mayers to form a solid bowling team.

The KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will make their IPL debut on March 28th against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Wankhede Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Tata Indian Premier League 2022 will kickstart on March 26th with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Wankhede Stadium.
