Lucknow Super Giants: Top 3 New All-Rounders to Target for TATA IPL 2023.

The Lucknow Super Giants is a team that heavily relied on the all-rounders to get their job done. They at times felt the pangs of depending heavily on all-rounders but they generally got the job done. The list of the all-rounders in their team includes Quinton De Kock, Krunal Pandya, Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, Jason Holder, and Krishnappa Gowtham. The Lucknow team currently has all the bases covered but there are a few all-rounders who can add value to their team. So, here is a look at the top 3 all-rounders that the Lucknow Super Giants can target before the TATA IPL 2023:

Mitchell Marsh can play for the Lucknow Super Giants in TATA IPL 2023:

The Lucknow Super Giants had genuine problems with their number 3 batter. They tried the veteran Manish Pandey in that position because Manish generally rules that position. They also resorted to trying Krishnappa Gowtham in that position. Even Jason Holder floated up the order at times. Manish Pandey was given the longest run of 4 games at that position. We also saw Ayush Badoni walk in to bat at number 3. Now that’s a lot of players in a competition of merge 14 games. Here is a look at his stats for IPL 2022:

Stats Value
Matches Played
Runs Scored 251
Wickets
Batting Average 31.38
Batting Strike Rate 131.32

One batter in the international circuit can solve their number 3 problems. They can pick Mitchell Marsh if he is in the pool next season. For this, they will have to send Marsh a lucrative offer that will ensure he moves away from the Delhi Capitals. But the Delhi Capitals will also be very keen on retaining Marsh.

The only problem with Mitchell Marsh is his availability and his injury concern. The availability concern comes because it is the Ashes next year. Marsh, if fit will certainly be in the scheme of things of the Australian red-ball team. His injury concern is that he has a very delicate hamstring and has a history of injuries that have kept him away from the game.

Shahbaz Ahmed can play for the Lucknow Super Giants in TATA IPL 2023:

Stats Value
Matches Played 16
Runs Scored 219
Wickets
Batting Average 27.98
Batting Strike Rate 120.9

Shahbaz Ahmed could be picked as a backup for Krunal Pandya. Krunal has been decent with the ball but his performance with the bat is concerning. He has failed to get the crucial runs or the impactful runs. Krunal has certainly hung in with the bat but the big contributions have not come. If the Lucknow Super Giants plan to release him and get him at a lower price, even that can be done. But in that case, it would be great to invest in Shahbaz Ahmed.

Shahbaz is a young player who currently is in the RCB camp. He bats at number 5 or 6 for RCB and does that with conviction. He has a knack for picking wickets. Shahbaz is sure of giving KL Rahul 2 to 3 good, economical, and quick overs when required. He makes sure that he bowls in the right areas. He is a thinking bowler. Shahbaz being a spinner uses the change of pace to bluff the batter.

Playing for the Bengal Cricket Association, he has been a true asset to them. His association with RCB has bought him into the limelight. He along with Dinesh Karthik won a few games for RCB. The finishing touches can also be given by Shahbaz if required. So, if Krunal Pandya decides to enter the auction or his poor run with the bat continues, the team can try Shahbaz Ahmed.

Deepak Hooda:

Deepak Hooda has been criminally underrated this season. His performances with the bat have improved over the last two seasons. The Punjab Kings asked Hooda to bat at number 4 in 2021 and that is exactly where his career skyrocketed. He was always a batter with great potential but he realized that with the Punjab Kings and with the Rajasthan domestic circuit. Here is a look at his stats for IPL 2022:

Stats Value
Matches Played 15
Runs Scored 451
Wickets
Batting Average 32.21
Batting Strike Rate 136.6

Deepak Hooda scored 451 runs at a strike rate of 136.6. He was averaging 32.21 this season. Whenever the Super Giants were in crisis, Deepak was the one who answered with the bat. Even in the game against the Gujarat Titans where the team got bottled out for 90 odd runs, Deepak was the top scorer. He was doing it all. He was building partnerships, finishing games, and even building the innings. So, the Lucknow Super Giants must ensure that they provide a safe space for Deepak so that he decides to stay with LSG.
