Maharashtra Government allows 25% fans for the 2nd INDvsNZ test match.

India vs New Zealand: The second test between India and New Zealand will not have a jam-packed stadium as Maharashtra Government has recently issued a directive to operate the iconic Wankhede Stadium at 25 per cent crowd capacity only.

It is noteworthy that, Wankhede Stadium has a seating capacity of only 33,000 fans. The officials of the stadium and Mumbai Cricket Association is pushing hard to somehow convince the government for hosting at least 50 per cent of fans.

“As per the general order of the Maharashtra government signed by the chief secretary, 25 per cent crowd is allowed for the Wankhede Test as of now. MCA is still hopeful that they may give us 50 per cent crowd permission,” the official said as quoted by the Indian Express.

Wankhede hosted its last test match back in December 2016 which was against England. After a long haul of 5 years, the longest format cricket will be back to the city as India will host New Zealand for the second test match at the Wankhede Stadium.

“The order also specified that the players, officials, present at the venue will have to be fully vaccinated. For the crowd, wearing a mask is compulsory, along with maintaining social distancing.”

Indian skipper Virat Kohli will be back to the whites in the match. He was rested for the entire T20I series and first test match against New Zealand considering his workload.

Currently, team India and New Zealand are in Kanpur’s Green Park for the first test match. After three days of play, India has scored 345/10 in its first innings while New Zealand in response added 296/10. Team India are 14/1 in its second innings losing the wicket of Shubman Gill.
