Former India and Bengal cricketer Manoj Tiwary has officially retired from all forms of cricket after playing in his final Ranji Trophy fixture for Bengal against Bihar on Sunday, February 18, 2024. After hanging up his cricketing gloves and boots, the former KKR player straightaway questioned former Indian skipper MS Dhoni for dropping him from the team even after he scored a hundred against the Windies in 2011.

Manoj Tiwary scored his only international hundred in the fifth one-day international match against the Windies in Chennai on December 11. But, despite scoring a century, he wasn’t able to find a spot in the Indian playing 11 for the 2012 Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia. Despite performing well, he was dropped from the team until 2014, and when he came back, he wasn’t able to perform well in the four chances he got, so he got dropped from the team again. After that, he never got selected for the team again.

“I want to ask MS Dhoni why I was dropped from the Indian playing 11 in 2011 after scoring a century against West Indies? I had the potential to perform at the same level as Virat and Rohit but I was not provided enough opportunities to prove myself. Today, when I watch many players getting more opportunities on the television, I feel bad,” said Manoj Tiwary in an interview with News 18.

The former KKR batter made his Indian debut against Australia in 2008 in the first match of the Commonwealth Bank Tri-Series between Sri Lanka, Australia, and India. The 38-year-old featured in 12 one-day international games for the Men in Blue and managed to score 287 runs at an average of 26.09, which included one century and one half century. He even went on to play three T20 internationals for the Indian team, but he only managed to score just 15 runs in three games.

He also bowled part time off spin bowling, and he picked up five scalps in One Day Internationals, with his best bowling figures reading 4-61 against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2012. His last match for the Indian team came in 2015, when he played in the third one-day international match against Zimbabwe. In domestic first-class cricket, the 38 year old has managed to score 10,195 runs in 148 games at an outstanding average of 47.86, which includes 30 centuries and 45 fifties.
