ICC T20 World Cup 2021: Mark Boucher feels that IPL bound South African players will help in upcoming World Cup 2021
ICC T20 World Cup 2021: South Africa’s national men’s team head coach Mark Boucher said that his players who are going to be part of IPL 2021 will help the country in the World Cup 2021 campaign which is slated to be held in India. He said that this will also help us in testing our bench strength when some of the key players are absent.
Five South African top cricketers will be part of the fourteenth edition of the Indian Premier League. The list includes the likes of Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi and David Miller. All these cricketers will fly to India after playing the first two ODI games against Pakistan.
“There are pros and cons of these players missing matches in this series but we have known this for some time because the BCCI and CSA have a long-standing agreement to release players for IPL and the scheduling didn’t quite work out because of the Covid-19 situation,” Boucher told a virtual press conference.
Boucher added that his players will be playing in India for IPL and this will help them for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup later this year.
“I think their appearances in the IPL going into the World T20 will help us,” said Boucher.
“Playing in a good strong competition against top strong opposition who they are likely to face in the World T20 they are going to get first-hand information about the different venues, the opposition we expect to meet up in the World event.
“Our players are not on a holiday, they will definitely learn something from this. This is a strong competition and taking in mind the ICC T20 World Cup, this becomes more crucial for us.”
