Vivo IPL 2021: Match referee Manu Nayyar leaves Vivo IPL 2021 after his mother’s demise.

Vivo IPL 2021: Senior Match Referee Manu Nayyar left the remainder of the Vivo IPL 2021 following his mother’s demise in Delhi.

Nayyar till now had officialted the games played in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium in the early part of the Vivo IPL 2021 and was allocated Ahmedabad’s fixtures. The last game he officiated was between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Tuesday which went on for a last ball thriller. RCB won the game by one run in the last over at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

“It happened last night as she didn’t wake up in the morning. Manu left the bubble and is in Delhi today. We are not sure if he will join the bubble again,” an IPL source close to the match referee told PTI.

According to the reports, Nayyar landed in Delhi on Thursday after informing the BCCI and the IPL governing council.

The exact cause of his mother’s death is not disclosed yet.

Earlier, Indian umpire Nitin Menon and Australia’s Paul Reiffel pulled back from the fourteenth edition of the Vivo IPL. The former informed that his mother and wife are battling with Coronavirus while the latter was scared to get locked out of his country due to the upsurge in the Covid-19 cases in India.

Following the news of players and umpire’s pulling back from the IPL, the BCCI released an advisory for the overseas players, officials, commentators and coaches that they will be sent back home safely by the BCCI after the completion of the elite competition.

“We understand that many of you are apprehensive about how you will get back home once the tournament concludes, which is natural and understandable. We want to apprise you that you have nothing to worry about. The BCCI will do everything to ensure that you reach your respective destinations seamlessly. The BCCI is monitoring the situation very closely and is working with the government authorities to make arrangements to get you home once the tournament concludes. Be rest assured that the tournament is not over for BCCI till each one of you has reached your home, safe and sound,” wrote BCCI’s interim chief executive officer Hemang Amin in an email.
