IND vs County XI: As India gears up to face a combined County XI at Durham on Tuesday, 20th July, all the pair of eyeballs will be focusing on opener Mayank Agarwal’s performance as he shows up to accompany Rohit Sharma in the opening slot for India in test cricket.

Young Shubman Gill, who was earlier expected to be the first choice opener for India in England series, was ruled out due to a shin stress injury and returned home to undergo his rehab program.

Agarwal, who is a specialist opener, will open the innings with Rohit Sharma in the three days practice match against Will Rhodes-led County Select XI in Durham, starting July 20th.

The match will be held behind closed doors while it will be live-streamed on Durham Cricket’s Youtube Channel.

Mayank Agarwal, earlier, lost his place in India’s Test team to Rohit Sharma during the Australia tour in 2020-21 owing to his poor form. He was also not in good touch during the New Zealand tour back in 2020.

In an interesting development, KL Rahul will don the wicket keeping gloves as Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha both are in isolation due to covid related issues.

The dashing cricketer was earlier seen doing his keeping drills.

Although Rahul may not get his place in the playing11 once Rishabh Pant comes in, however, according to the reports, Rahul will fill up the places of Ajinkya Rahane or Cheteshwar Pujara if both do not return to their forms in the given time.

Pant contracted the covid virus, but is asymptomatic and is doing well while Saha was isolated as a precautionary measure as he came in contact with the two infected members.

All the five members of the Indian contingent, who are under isolation, are expected to come out before the start of the Test series against England.
