Men In Blue Are Ready To Face England at Eden Garden | India Vs England
As India vs England T20I series Is going to Start From Wednesday where India Going to face England at Eden Garden,
And the Newly Appointed Vice-captain Axar Patel has hinted at a flexible middle order for the upcoming T20I series against England. The series is set to commence at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22. Axar confirmed that, apart from the openers, no batter's position in the line-up is fixed.
Axar, a key player frequently used as a floater in the Indian team, was promoted to bat at number four in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa. Alongside him, players like Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Rinku Singh have also been utilized as floaters with notable success.
"Batting-wise, it's not just about me. We discussed back in 2023-24 that the openers are fixed, but players from numbers three to seven have been informed that they can be sent to bat anytime, based on the situation. It’s not about one batter playing at a fixed position. The middle order will adapt according to match scenarios, the type of bowlers in action, and favorable match-ups," Axar stated during a press conference.
For the first time, Axar is part of India's leadership group, having been appointed vice-captain. He expressed enthusiasm about his new role, saying, "It's only been a day, but being in the leadership group comes with added responsibility. The T20I side is already settled, so the pressure is minimal. However, small decisions need to be made, and I need to work closely with Suryakumar during the games."
He further elaborated on the demands of leadership, saying, "As a leader, you must be prepared to make tough decisions. We've discussed the importance of sharing honest opinions, which helps foster trust within the team. T20I is a fast-paced format where decisions must be made quickly, so most of our discussions with the coaches revolve around improving in that area."
Players like Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Rinku Singh have all frequently changed their batting positions in recent matches for India.
