MI IPL 2024: The five times champions Mumbai Indians had a ‘see-saw’ kind of season which was full of highs and lows, to be honest. Mumbai Indians under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy has flourished a lot, we have seen it in the past. The feeble bowling attack this year, however, was the leading point of concern. In this post, we discuss the MI IPL 2024 Squad, Players list, Captain, Coach, and Retention-Released List of Mumbai Indians Squad for IPL 2024.
Only one batsman of MI was able to secure a spot in the top-10 run scorers in IPL 2023 and that was Surya Kumar Yadav(605). Similarly, Piyush Chawla was the only bowler to set a place in the top 10 wicket-takers list this season. These ‘average stats’ prove that the Mumbai Indians’ dominance this season was on the colder side and obviously not what they would have wanted.
They had big names in their pace bowling unit like Jofra Archer and Jason Behrendorff and still Akash Madwal, an uncapped Indian young talent took equal wickets to Behrendorff(14) in just 8 matches he played. The first half of Mumbai Indians was not up to the standards of a 5-time Champions team but they managed to qualify for playoffs with 8 wins in 14 games.
They are having an exceptional squad. It won’t be wrong if we say the strongest squad but they looked off-colours this season. Mumbai Indians will definitely be looking forward to couple of good bowling options going forward for the next season.

Mumbai Indians Retention and Releases
Let’s talk about the squad composition of Mumbai Indians of 2023. Mumbai have Rohit and Ishan Kishan as openers; Surya Kumar Yadav and Cameron Green at the middle; Tim David and Tilak Verma as the finishers. None of them needs the description of who they are! Undoubtedly the most dangerous and ruthless batting line-up. Where they are lacking is the bowling; have Jasprit Bomrah been fit to play in IPL, this franchise would have lifted the title for record sixth time.
Before the next season, we might see MI searching for a quality left arm pacer. Yes! that is what they might look for. Altough they have Jason Behrendorff, they might look for a replacement. Chris Jordan was a total failure this year, Arjun Tendulkar was good but not as good as Mumbai wanted, Kumar Kartikeya was expensive, leaking around 9 runs per over, and Akash Madwal was quite impressive and Mumbai will be definitely looking him to be better going forward.
Jofra Archer was off colour for sure. Really looking forward for his and Bomrah’s bowling duo ghosting out the opponents in the ground.
MI might look to release Chris Jordan, Duan Jansen, and Hritik Shaukeen and look for some more promising and prominent options.
Mumbai Indians IPL 2024 Squad
We don’t see any major changes or swaps in the batting arsenal of Mumbai Indians. Might loose some bowlers and uncapped India players too. They might look for someone like Trend Boult or Arshdeep Singh.
