MI Qualifies for Playoffs! Check the Latest Updated Points Table and Orange Cap–Purple Cap Leaderboard
With the last remaining playoff berth up for grabs, the five-time champions showcased their experience and firepower to seal the spot in emphatic fashion. On a tricky, spin-friendly pitch and under the looming threat of rain, MI’s late flourish with the bat followed by a ruthless bowling performance, saw them outclass a faltering Delhi Capitals side and knock them out of playoff contention.
Put into bat, MI were in a spot of bother at 132 for 5 with just a few overs left. But then came the carnage. Suryakumar Yadav launched into the Delhi attack in the death overs, ably supported by the young Naman Dhir. The duo added 48 runs in just two overs, turning what looked like a par score into a daunting target of 180.
Suryakumar finished unbeaten on a masterful 73 off 39 balls, his 13th consecutive 25+ score in T20s – equalling Temba Bavuma's world record. Dhir chipped in with a fiery 24* off just eight balls, including a 27-run 19th over that changed the game’s complexion.
Chasing 181 under pressure, DC’s hopes rested on their experienced top order. But it was a horror start. Stand-in captain Faf du Plessis and KL Rahul fell cheaply, and the team never recovered from the double blow.
Sameer Rizvi and Ashutosh Sharma provided a flicker of resistance, adding 38 runs as a drizzle threatened to disrupt play. However, Mitchell Santner had other plans. Using the conditions masterfully, the left-arm spinner picked 3 wickets for just 11 runs in four overs, spinning a web around the Capitals’ middle order.
Jasprit Bumrah (3 for 12) returned to clean up the tail with trademark precision. DC were bowled out for 121, well short of the target, ending their playoff hopes after what had once looked like a promising campaign.
With all four playoff spots now locked in, the race turns to who will finish in the top two and secure the Qualifier advantage. MI still have one match left, and with their net run rate soaring to +1.292, they’re in contention for a top-two finish if results go their way.
The Fall of DC – From Table Toppers to Exit
It’s a tale of two halves for Delhi. After winning their first four matches, they seemed poised for a smooth playoff entry. But inconsistency and poor finishing cost them dearly, managing only two wins in their next nine outings. Regular skipper Axar Patel being sidelined due to flu in a must-win game only added to their woes.
