1st Innings Summary
Hardik Pandya, the regular skipper of Mumbai Indians, was back and he won the first toss he played at the Indian Premier League 2025! Hardik was pretty quick and happy to invite Gujarat Titans to bat first. With Hardik Pandya back in the mix, the middle order already looked far better than before. However, despite losing the first match, Shubman Gill went on with the same team.

As Gill mentioned at the toss, he aimed for a left-right opening combination, sending Sai Sudharsan alongside him to start the innings. The duo, known for their finesse rather than raw aggression, relied on timing and placement to build a solid foundation. Their approach paid off as they put up 66 runs in the powerplay.
After Gill’s departure, Jos Buttler took charge, launching a fiery assault. He hammered 39 runs at a blistering strike rate of 160, injecting momentum into the innings. Meanwhile, Sai Sudharsan was exceptional, anchoring the innings with a brilliant 63-run knock at a strike rate of 153.
However, Mumbai Indians staged a strong comeback in the death overs. After Sudharsan’s dismissal in the 18th over, Gujarat Titans suffered a late collapse, losing four wickets in the final two overs. At one point, they seemed poised to breach the 210-215 mark, but Mumbai’s exceptional death bowling curtailed their charge, keeping them a dozen or more runs short.
In the end, Gujarat Titans posted a total of 196 for eight. While Mitchell Santner remained wicketless, the rest of Mumbai’s bowling attack chipped in, each grabbing a wicket. It was a commendable fightback by Mumbai Indians, tightening the screws at the right moment.
