RCB's Powerpacked Innings

Royal Challengers Bengaluru put up a strong total of 221/5 in their 20 overs after being asked to bat first by Mumbai Indians. The innings got off to a shaky start with Phil Salt falling in the very first over, but Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal stitched a crucial 91-run partnership to steady the ship.

Kohli played a classic knock of 67 off 42 balls, while Padikkal contributed a brisk 37 from 22 deliveries. Rajat Patidar, leading the side, took charge in the middle overs with an explosive 64 off just 32 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes to maintain the momentum. Despite the quick dismissals of Livingstone and Patidar, Jitesh Sharma's unbeaten 40 off 19 balls gave RCB a late flourish, pushing them past the 220-run mark.

Mumbai Indians' bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, with only Jasprit Bumrah managing to keep things tight, conceding just 29 runs in his four overs. Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers in terms of wickets, grabbing 2 for 57, while Hardik Pandya also chipped in with two wickets but went for 45 runs.

Debutant Vignesh Puthur impressed with a wicket in his only over. However, the rest of the bowling unit failed to make a significant impact as RCB's batters attacked relentlessly. With a steep target of 222 set, the pressure now shifts to Mumbai Indians to pull off a big chase.

Mumbai Indians' Chase

Mumbai Indians gave a spirited chase in response to RCB's imposing 221 but ultimately fell short. The innings began with a quick burst as Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton scored 17 runs each in no time, but both fell inside the powerplay.

Will Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav tried to stabilize things, but their slow scoring rate added pressure. The momentum shifted when Tilak Varma exploded with a blistering 56 off 29 balls, and captain Hardik Pandya followed with an explosive 42 off just 15 deliveries, nearly bringing MI back into the game.

However, after Tilak and Hardik were dismissed in quick succession, MI’s lower order collapsed under pressure. Krunal Pandya was the star with the ball for RCB, claiming four crucial wickets, including two in the last over of the chase, which derailed Mumbai’s chances.

Hazlewood and Yash Dayal chipped in with two wickets each, maintaining tight lines when it mattered most. Despite a late flourish, MI couldn’t close the gap, falling short by 12 runs in what turned out to be a high-scoring thriller.
