Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan fired shots at Babar Azam after Pakistan was eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He made a bold statement and said that the captain of the team isn’t in the top 15 players in T20I cricket.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam has come under serious scanner as the captain as well as the batter. This comes after his team faced an early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan got eliminated in the group stage itself as India along with the USA qualified for the Super 8 stage from their group.
Following this Babar Azam as a captain has faced a lot of criticism. Many fans and pundits have lashed out at him for not leading the team well and thrashed him for facing defeats against India as well as the United States of America.
Apart from this, Babar Azam failed to lead the team from the front and couldn’t get going at all. He played a slow knock against USA and the failed to get going in the match against India, which cost them the match and troubled them.

Michael Vaughan while criticizing the Pakistan team claimed that they don’t have the skill set. He lashed out at skipper Babar Azam, saying that the opening batter won’t make it into the playing XIs of England, Australia India or the West Indies. He added:
“I don’t think they have the skill set of what I’ve seen in the past from Pakistan cricket in T20 cricket. I honestly don’t think they’ve got many great T20 players. Babar Azam is exceptional, but would he make England’s, Australia’s, India’s, or the West Indies’ T20 teams? Probably not.”
In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, Babar Azam compiled only 91 runs in three matches with a 104.65 strike rate.
Mentally, they have no clue how to beat India – Michael Vaughan on Babar Azam’s team mindset
Michael Vaughan further stated that Pakistan has no clue as to how to beat India and they don’t have that swagger in them. Speaking about the same, he explained:
“Mentally, they have no clue how to beat India. That’s true. I could see it in the chase. They should have strolled that game. There’s only one winner because India knows how to win and they have the mentality to get over the line, and for whatever reason, Pakistan just doesn’t seem to have that kind of swagger,” he concluded.
