Mohammad Siraj was overpriced in IPL 2022, RCB should release him in IPL 2023: Young Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj was anticipated to continue his sublime bowling spell in the recently curtained Tata Indian Premier League (IPL), however, things derailed for the 28-years old. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mohd Siraj ended his IPL 2022 campaign with nine wickets from 15 appearances. Moreover, his economy was on the expensive side worsening his stats further.
Siraj has grown exponentially over the years in international cricket across formats. From being a rookie pacer to getting a permanent slot in India’s test team, Siraj has made tremendous growth in record time.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) targetted Mohammad Siraj as their third retention ahead of the IPL 2022 auction. The franchise paid him INR 7 Crores for his services, however, he couldn’t perform anywhere near his best.
RCB may release Siraj and repurchase at lower cost: Aakash Chopra
Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra, renowned commentator and former Indian cricketer, reckons RCB should release him before the IPL 2023 auction and then repurchase him at a much cheaper cost. He also opined that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be at risk if they fail to repurchase Siraj from the auction table.

“Mohammed Siraj was retained for seven crores. You may release him. If you release him, whom will you get, that’s a big question because you will have to get an Indian bowler. You can buy him back cheaper actually, he will not be sold for seven crores now,” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
“You have an overseas bowler in the form of Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel has done very well, Akash Deep was not too bad at the start as well. You wanted to hold on to him (Siraj), I thought that was a great idea but the season has not been good,” the 44-year-old added.
