Mohammed Shami, the pace sensation who had made a comeback to the Indian T20I team sheerly based on performance has unfortunately tested positive for Covid-19. This makes it difficult for him to make the cut to the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 squad. Shami last played for India in T20Is in the last T20 World Cup held in UAE. He was then sacked due to poor performance. But he was set to make a great comeback. Here is an in-depth look:

Mohammed Shami Test Covid Positive:

“Yes, Shami has tested COVID-19 positive. But there is nothing to worry about as the symptoms are mild. But he will have to remain in isolation and will be able to rejoin the squad once he tests negative. It is unfortunate but that is how life is,” is what a BCCI official had to say about Shami.

Umesh Yadav is likely to be roped in for Mohammed Shami. Shami’s main skill was to bowl in the powerplay overs and to bowl one over at the death with precision and pace. A similar role was played by Umesh Yadav for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Umesh was also very quick, and precise and had a good IPL season. He was playing county cricket all this while for Middlesex.

He was ruled out of the county as well due to a quadriceps injury. But as soon as the recovery was done, the Indian call-up looks very near to him.

Umesh Yadav had a Great Royal London Cup:

While playing for Middlesex at the Royal London Cup, 35-year-old Umesh Yadav had a great time. He was swinging the ball like a maestro. In 7 games he took 16 wickets.

When asked about Shami’s recovery and when Shami can be seen on the pitch, the official said, “We are expecting Shami to be fit for the next series against South Africa. There are 10 days before that series starts. So, we are more than hope you can say”.

Earlier this year Umesh had expressed his views via the KKR YouTube channel about playing for the India blue once again. His series of events has led to him coming very close to his dream.
