MS Dhoni confirms to play his final T20 game in Chennai’s home ground Chepauk.

IPL 2022: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has confirmed to play his final Indian Premier League (IPL) match in front of the crowd in Chennai’s Chepauk, however, the cricketer refrained from revealing the actual time frame for his possible retirement from all forms of cricket.

The felicitation ceremony was organised on Saturday for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after their recent IPL 2021 title win in Dubai. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister was also present in the ceremony.

Dhoni, though, didn’t openly state that he would feature in the upcoming season of the IPL or not, he did promise about his final T20 match, which will be in front of Chennai people.

Talking about his IPL participation in the coming season, Dhoni is yet to make his mind as there is plenty of time left for the fifteenth edition of the IPL.

“I will think about it, there is a lot of time, right now we are just in November. IPL 2022 will be played in April,” Dhoni said.

He further said that he loves to plan his cricket. Dhoni played his final ODI match for India in his home ground Ranchi and is hopeful that his final T20 match will be in MA Chidambaram Stadium.

“I have always planned my cricket. You know my last game that I played, was in Ranchi. (In) the ODI version, the last home game was at my hometown in Ranchi. So hopefully, my last T20, it will be in Chennai. Whether it’s next year, or in five years’ time, we don’t think about it,” Dhoni said while addressing the attendees at Saturday’s event.

Though CSK officials have confirmed that the first retention card of the franchise will be played on MS Dhoni, the cricketer has himself denied all those things. He rather prioritised the strong core for CSK for the coming years that will continue to legacy of the side.

“Again I’ve said it before, it depends on BCCI. With two new teams coming in, we have to decide what is good for CSK. It’s not about me being there in top-three or four. It’s about making a strong core to ensure the franchise doesn’t suffer. The core group, we have to have a hard look to see who can contribute for the next 10 years,” Dhoni told host broadcaster Star Sports at the post-match presentation.
