The Chennai Super Kings and their injury woes have increased. MS Dhoni, their captain, their leader, their legend has also injured himself in the game against the Rajasthan Royals. This adds another name to the big list of injured players that CSK already has. The list includes big names like Kyle Jamieson, Deepak Chahar, and Ben Stokes.
With MS Dhoni injured, there are many questions that need to be answered. Who will captain CSK if Dhoni misses out? How severe is his injury? Stephen Fleming dropped this bombshell during the post-match press conference. Here is an in-depth look:
MS Dhoni is Nursing a Knee Injury, Says Stephen Fleming:
MS Dhoni had one of the best games of his career last night. Though he was not able to finish the game for his team, he looked in sublime touch. The Chennai Super Kings required 21 runs in the last over and MS Dhoni hit two sixes to bring the game back in favor of CSK. But Sandeep Sharma held his nerves and executed the last two yorkers very well to beat the Super Kings by 3 runs. During the match, MS was limping and finding running difficult. His injury was visible.
When enquired about it in the post-match conference, here is what coach Stephen Fleming had to say, “He is nursing a knee injury which you can see in some of his movements. It’s hindering him somewhat. His fitness has always been very professional. He comes a month before the tournament starts. He’s a great player. We never have doubts about him. He’s just amazing.”
“Sisanda Magala has Injured his Fingers”, says Fleming:
Stephen Fleming was also enquired why Sisanda Magala was not given his final two overs to bowl. In response, he dropped another bombshell revealing that Magala had injured his finger and had got a split webbing. He said, “Magala’s hand was split, unfortunately, so he was unable to bowl those last two overs. The same happened to Deepak Chahar in the last game so we are operating on pretty thin resources. But I think we are not the only team to have that.”
CSK Injury Woes Increase:
The Chennai Super Kings might suffer if MS Dhoni misses out. Here is a look at their long list of injured players:
Player Name | Injury | Updates |
MS Dhoni | Knee Injury | Monitored daily. |
Ben Stokes | Knee and Toe Injuries | Monitored on a daily basis. |
Kyle Jamieson | Back Injury | Ruled Out of the tournament. |
Sisanda Magala | Split Webbing | Out for at least two weeks. |
Mukesh Chaudhary | Back Injury | Ruled Out of the tournament. |
Deepak Chahar | Left Leg Hamstring | Out for two to three weeks at least. |
Simarjeet Singh | Unspecified | Out for a week more. |
The big blow for the Chennai Super Kings came in the game against the Mumbai Indians. Their strike bowler Deepak Chahar has been ruled out yet again due to a hamstring injury. He is an injury-prone player but this recurring injury has put the NCA rehabilitation process under the scanner. Mukesh Chaudhary another domestic Indian pacer was again ruled out from the entire tournament with a back injury. He missed out on a significant part of the domestic season as well.
Chennai Super Kings will be looking for Indian pacers as Simarjeet Singh, their retention has also been ruled out due to an unspecified injury for at least a month. They will now have to rely on the services of Tushar Deshpande and Aakash Singh, the left armer. Ben Stokes who has injured his toe, is monitored daily. Once he comes on, he can play the double role and fill the voids.
